Ductless Mini Split Systems
What is a ductless Mini Split system?
A mini split system is a heat pump that is an energy efficient alternative to traditional heating and air conditioning systems. The system does not require any duct work which allows them to be more energy efficient than other HVAC systems.
How Does a Mini Split Work?
A mini split system takes air from one place to another with the outdoor compressor unit and indoor air handler. Single air handler systems can be installed in small homes or individual rooms, or multi unit systems can be installed in larger buildings to help ensure comfortable temperatures.
A ductless mini-split system works on the same principles as larger heating and cooling systems. The exterior unit draws in air through one or two vents. Some units have vents on the side and back, allowing air flow in and out of the unit, so the unit may need to be installed a foot or two or mounted to an exterior wall. The unit draws air in and delivers it to the interior of your home through a small tube. The interior unit heats and cools the air and delivers it into the space. Ductless mini-split systems are typically controlled by remote.
Benefits of a Mini Split System:
Ductless heat pumps are easily retrofitted into buildings without ductwork. It’s much easier to install a mini split in a tight space than to make room for ductwork by preforming a renovation. Mini splits can also be installed as supplemental systems in homes with central A/C systems to help all areas of your home remain comfortable with the constantly fluctuating temperatures in the PNW.
Other benefits include:
Energy efficiency
The ability to customize temperatures in each room where an indoor air handler installed.
Longevity, with many systems lasting 15-20 years with regular maintenance.
Aesthetic needs can usually be met because of the wide range of units available in different sizes, capacities, and designs.
You can view the efficiency rating of each product on the Energy Guide label. For cold climates, look for higher heating season performance factors. But in a warmer climate, check the seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) to see what you can save.
